Porch lights and down lights on homes have been a fixture for many years. Recently, there has been an influx of new technology that makes lighting up your whole property, landscapes, pathways, and patios included much easier and brighter. It began with solar powered lights over a decade ago. These little mobile lights were introduced to light up walkways and trees cheaply and effectively. Over time these lights weaken, and the brightness is not consistent as each light gets a different amount of sun each day. Bright consistent LED bulbs have been steadily improving year over year and now the technology has gone far enough that lighting an entire property from a small hanging transformer is possible and very cost effective.
Imagine the ground is covered in a fresh blanket of snow. The air is still and quiet, and you step out at night to see a bright glowing path of light bouncing off the trees and the ground from all the new lighting. Path lights turning on after snowfall is a magical time where the landscape comes to life in the coldest and darkest time of the year. Shadows are cast, and light is reflected in many ways shimmering off the sparkly new snow cover like light shining off a sequin jacket.
Step out tonight and imagine the difference a few lights could make. Path lights below to help illuminate the sidewalk, and up-lights on trees to cast dancing shadows on the branches above. Lighting is a game changer for the landscape and using low voltage LED’s instead of weak solar lights is the future for how the night will be brightened, one light at a time.
